This week on FEW Member's Corner, we would like to introduce you to Giselle Lee, Founder of GLOHS, a natural, organic skincare and health brand.
Hello Giselle, what made you want to become an entrepreneur?
I am a Hong Kong native, formerly leading a hectic financier life until I had a serious health scare in 2015 which caused everything to come to a screeching halt. My extensive research and studies in the next couple of years on natural remedies to improve my health completely transformed my thinking about how to take care of my body. I launched GLOHS, a natural, organic skincare and health brand in 2016, with the intention of sharing my discoveries with more people.
What inspired you to start your company?
During my research, it shocked me to discover the amount of harmful chemicals our skin absorbs, like a sponge on a daily basis. I see a wide gap between consumers buying products based on marketing or packaging, versus truly knowing what they are using and why. I hope I can help bridge that gap through GLOHS.
So far, what's the most challenging part of your journey?
Building up the brand, striking the balance between investing in the products and its ingredients vs spending money on marketing the brand. We are heavily tilted on the former but cannot ignore the latter.
How do you see beauty and what is your recommended #selflove routine?
Beauty is about respecting yourself inside and out. By taking care of yourself, you are sending a message of self-respect and self-love, and this is a contagious message. My #selflove routine - I eat well, exercise regularly, and of course a good natural skincare regime. I also ensure I have enough "me" time to relax and reflect.
According to you, what are the most effective sales channels in Hong Kong?
For an emerging brand like ours, online is probably the most effective way. Brick and mortar will only work if there is good resource there to tell the story. Hence, finding the right channel / partner will be key.
What is your personal success?
The founding of GLOHS allowed me to find true passion and happiness in my work, and this is something a corporate job certainly cannot offer. Company success is a consistent evolvement; every milestone achieved is a mini step towards a bigger goal which gives me encouragement to carry on.
